Mystery Painting Description
by Kala and Jessica

First make a diamond with four equal sides. In the top corner there is a triangle with its left side cut off. It is white. Next to the cut-off triangle is a red upside-down triangle. Under the red triangle is a rectangle with its left side cut off. It is gray. In the left side corner is a white triangle. Under the white cut-off triangle at the top of the diamond is a square. Its top right corner is a little cut off, and it's white. Under it is a square, and a little chunk of its right bottom corner is cut off. In the bottom corner is a black triangle with a tiny bit of its left corner cut off. Between the black triangle and the gray square and the gray rectangle is a space where a orange-yellow triangle should go. In the right corner is a gray triangle that has a chunk of its bottom part gone. Next to the triangle is a dark blue triangle. Between all the shapes is a thick black line, except on the outside of the diamond.

Analysis
by Kala and Jessica

Dear Jessica and Jack,

The artist who did this painting was Piet Mondrian. The painting is called "Tableau No. IV; Lozenge Composition with Red, Gray, Blue, Yellow, and Black." The size is 56 by 56 inches. It was painted 1924 on canvas and it hangs in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

You did the diamond well and some of the shapes were good. Most of the colors are good; you did very well.

We could have made the directions a little better by telling you how the triangle should stand and how big the shapes were supposed to be. We should have told you to use paints or water colors. You did a very good job on it. Thank you for choosing our description.
