Mystery Painting Description
by Darrin and Nick

This painting is five squares inside each other. To start you need a square piece of paper. The first square is hard to see. It is a thin line of light green around the edge of the paper. The second square is just inside that, and it is dark green. Inside of that is another square just as thick as the second square but smaller. It is colored brown. The next square is dark orange, and there is a light orange square inside of that one. The smallest square is about 1/4 the size of the second square. The squares get closer to the bottom of the picture each time.

Analysis
by Darrin and Nick

Our painting is called "Homage to the Square: Frislan." It was painted by Josef Albers in 1955. Its real size is 32 by 32 inches. It was painted with oil paints on a board and it is hanging in the Sidney Janis Gallery in New York.

You got the colors right and in the right order, too. You also got the squares about the right size.

Maybe we should have told you that the squares are filled in. If we told you to color in the squares it would have been perfect.
