Polygonoid
Description
by Asako and Leslie

We are going to do our best to describe our polygonoid named The Alien Flower. Be ready to be challenged. We are going to describe our polygonoid in parts from start to finish.

Please hold your paper vertically. Start with a yellow hexagon a little more than half way up the page. When you are done, color the hexagon yellow with a black dot in the middle of the hexagon for the eye. Draw a circle around it but leave it white.

Surround the hexagon with nine big blue rhombuses any way they will fit. Color the rhombuses blue. Around the blue rhombuses put seven red trapezoids. Starting at the top and going to the left, put four trapezoids, including the top one. Add three more trapezoids on the right side. Make a black line to separate the rhombuses and the trapezoids. Color the trapezoid section brown.

Now add two blue rhombuses to the bottom row of the other rhombuses. Add two more blue. Put three more rhombuses in a vertical line with the top facing to the right. Add two more rhombuses on the left side facing vertically. Put one more horizontal rhombus next to the one on the very bottom. Then add two more rhombuses on each side. Face the new rhombuses horizontally. There should be a space for one triangle having the point face up. When you are done, color the stem green. The stem is the last eight rhombuses and triangle that were added.

Now add the antennas on top of the trapezoids. On the top you put one skinny rhombus on the right side of the trapezoids then you put another rhombus on the left. The skinny rhombus on the right side is facing right and the skinny rhombus on the left side is facing left. We hope you had fun building our challenging Polygonoid.

Analysis
by Leslie and Asako

Sean and John did a very good job recreating our polygonoid. There were a few things they did very well and a few things that we would have liked to explain more clearly. Two things they did well on were the number of rhombuses used and the color for the eyes. The head and the hair were also done well. There was also the piece of the stem at the bottom of the paper that was done well.

One thing that we would like to explain better was putting a black dot for the eye in the yellow hexagon. We would also like to further explain the stem. We should have said that it was supposed to be green. We also think that we made the stem too complicated because we couldn’t figure it out. We think that we needed to explain the hair more clearly, because we forgot to describe the little part of the trapezoid touching the face. We also forgot to mention that we wanted the flower to have an antenna on top of the trapezoid on the head. We hope you had a fun time making our polygonoid!
