Woman in a Spanish CostumeGeorges Rouault (1871-1903) painted this portrait in 1930 using oil on paper. It is in the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Georges Rouault studied the trade of making stained glass when he was young. Many of his paintings have the heavy black outlines and rich jewel-like colors found in stained glass windows. He began working as a printmaker in 1916. His most famous work is a series of fifty-eight etchings known as Miserere. |
Self PortraitVincent van Gogh (1853-1890) painted this self portrait in 1889 using oil on canvas. The painting is 65 by 54 cm and is in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. All of his work was produced during a period of only 10 years. His paintings feature course brushwork and striking colour. You can find many more portraits by van Gogh at the Web Museum.
