This portrait is in the style of Georges Rouault. You will need paint, a piece of paper, and a ruler. (To avoid confusion, use a piece of paper 11" x 17" and let the long sides of the paper be on the vertical sides. This picture is in profile. I am facing left.) To start, make the following lines lightly on your paper: A) a straight, horizontal line 6 and 1/2" below the top, B) a straight, horizontal line 7 and 1/2" below the top, C) a straight, horizontal line 9 and 1/4 " below the top, D) a straight, horizontal line 3" above the bottom, E) a straight horizontal line 4" above the bottom, F) a straight horizontal line 3" above the bottom, G) a straight, diagonal line from the lower left corner to the upper right corner, H) a straight, vertical line 1 and 1/2" from the left, I) a straight, vertical line 4 1/2" from the left, J) a straight, vertical line 2 and 3/4" from the right, and K) a straight, vertical line 1 and 1/2" from the right. Now, make the following dots: A) 5 and 1/2" from the right, and 4 and 1/2" from the bottom, B) on the intersection of lines E and J, D) on line F, and 3 and 1/2" from the right, and E) in line F, and 4" from the left. Use a pencil and draw a line from dot A to B to C to D to E, then back to A. Draw a line on line A from 5" from the right to 2" from the right. Do the same on line B. Draw lines from line A to B 5" from the right and 2" from the right. You will see a rectangle. This is the base of the crown. Paint it a mix of yellow, blue, and red that looks brown. Paint a black line from the bottom of line J to line D. Do the same in line K. Connect these two lines at the top. This is the back of the chair. Paint this rectangle brown. Draw a curved line from 5" from the right on line D to 3" from the left on the bottom, while touching dots A and E. Draw a line from the same place on line D to line J. You will see a shape like an upside-down cup. This is my torso. Paint this shape from top to bottom like this: green, yellow, blue, red, greenish-yellow, orange, red, bluish-green, red, green, and greenish-yellow. Paint a line from 6 and 1/2" to 5 and 1/2" from the upper right corner on line G. Paint another line on line G from 6 1/2" from the top middle part of the brown shape. This is part of a diamond shape on the crown. Finish this shape by drawing the other half and paint it yellow and orange. About 3/4" right of this diamond shape is a half diamond shape facing left. Paint this shape the same color. About 1" left of the diamond is another half diamond shape facing right. Paint this the same color, too. Paint a line from the upper left corner of the rectangle on line A to 4 and 1/2" from the top and 5 and 1/2" from the left, to 5" from the top and 4 and 1/2" from the right, to 2 and 3/4" from the top and 4 and 3/4" from the right, to 4 and 1/2" from the top and 3 and 1/2" from the right, to 2 and 1/2" from the top and 3" from the right, to 4" from the top and 2 and 1/2" from the right, to 3" from the top and 1 and 1/2" from the right, to 4 and 1/4" from the top and 1 and 1/4" from the right, to 4" from the top and 1" from the right, and finally, down to the right side of the rectangle. You will have just made a crown with a diamond shape and two half diamond shapes. Paint this crown (without the diamond shapes) yellow, magenta, and purple. Now outline a head facing left between the crown and the torso. Paint an ear close to the top. Paint an eye with a slanted eyebrow toward the left. Paint the pupil of the eye black. Paint a frowning mouth in the middle of the face. Paint the eyebrow brown, the mouth brown, and the face blue and green. Outline all the lines you drew in black, except the lettered ones. You are now done with the portrait. Now, let's start the background. Draw a window with a rounded top from line D, in the space between lines H and I to 3 and 1/2" below the top. On line A, draw a line from 2 and 1/2" from the left to 4 and 1/8" from the left. Do the same on line B. This is a cloud. Draw four more clouds above this cloud: two on the left, one on the top, and one on the right. Paint these clouds a mix of orange, blue, and purple. Paint a yellow sun, an orange and purple sky, and a red and magenta ground with green and yellow mountains. Paint the wall that the window is in blue, yellow, purple, green, magenta, and yellow. You are now done. |
King Steven's Revenge Analysisby StevenMaren did a good job in the shapes of the chair, the torso, and the base of the crown. I should have said that the wall was mainly blue and green, and I should of told Maren the positions of the things outside the window. I said my face was blue and green, and there was a ground outside, but probably there were so many words that Maren was confused. |
