Portrait of Me

Description of My Portrait

Portrait of Me

recreated by Brittany

My portrait is in the style of Georges Rouault. The paints you should use are orange, yellow, red, magenta, blue, green, purple, and the outlining is in black. For the sizes I am going to give you, you should have a paper 11" by 17". You will paint it vertically (hot dog style).

My face is pointing left. You should start 4" from the right-hand edge and 8 and 1/2" from the bottom edge by making a curved diagonal line down for the forehead. Make it 2" long. Now make a curved half circle for the nose. Make it 3/4 of an inch. Now make a little bit sticking out for the lip. Bring it out again and you have my mouth. Now curve it again about 1 inch long for my chin and bring it down about 2 inches for my neck. Don't forget to curve inwards a little. Go to the right about 1 and 1/3" and curve down for the bottom of my neck.

Now go to the top of my forehead and make a straight line 2" up. Then make a line down, and that will be the first spike on my crown. There will be 3 and 1/2 spikes on my crown. Under the bottom of my crown, at the top of my forehead make my hair start thin and get thicker as it goes backwards and down. Put my eyes near the top of my head. Now under the neck make a line for the dress and decorate it with triangles. The color for the face is made by mixing orange and yellow. The color for my hair is made by mixing a lot of orange and a little bit of green with a couple of black lines as detail. For the crown use yellow, and for the dress use orange and red mixed together.

For the background make three levels of mountains behind me; have them go up about 3/4 of the paper. Then paint the sun coming out from behind the mountains. Put a cloud in the top right-hand corner. Under the sun mix yellow and magenta, and for the rest of the mountains mix magenta and purple. Make the sun orange and yellow. Paint the sky blue and magenta, and for the cloud use the following colors: orange, yellow, magenta, and green. Now you should have finished my portrait.

Analysis

by Eleanor

What worked well was the crown because of its color and shape. The hair was almost the same color and started where it was supposed to. The background was good because the mountains, the sun, and the cloud were the right color.

What didn't work well was that my nose was in the wrong spot and my face was pointing the wrong direction. My dress has no green on it, but my partner drew green on it. My face, my neck, and most of the dress weren't colored. For the background, you couldn't see where the mountains were, you only saw purple. Also, you couldn't see where the mountains end and the sky starts since the sky is the same color as the mountains in her painting.

Although there were a lot of mess-ups I think the two paintings look very much alike. This activity was really fun!
