My portrait is in Georges Rouault's style. I used tempera paint. You'll need to start with a vertical paper. You'll be painting a profile of me. I'm facing to the left. These directions will work only if you have 11 x 17" paper. The colors are red, light blue, orange, yellow, dark green, blue, and black. I take up about half of the paper space (the right half).

My hat is cone shaped and is four inches tall from the top, but you can't see all of it. It's colored light blue with red dots that are about 1 and 1/2 inches in diameter. Next down is my face. I have a rounded nose, small lips (they're not red), and a dark blue iris in my eye. My face is an orangish color, using red, orange, and yellow (not much red) blended, and has a peaceful look. My neck is 2" long and right below my chin. The hair is brown and 2" wide with black streaks. The face is 5" long and the hair is 6" long. Right below that, there is my dress. It takes up the last 7 and 1/2" of your paper on the right, and goes down to about my elbow. (My dress has long sleeves.) There are light blue diamonds and triangles all over the dress in a diagonal striped pattern with no black spaces, but there are black dots in the middles of the diamonds and triangles. My figure is 5-6" wide.

The background takes up the other half of your paper and is 4 and 1/2" wide. The yellow sun goes 2" down, but you can't see all of it, and has big orange spikes along the edge. The right edge of the sun is 1 and 1/2" away from the left edge of my hat. The sun is 5" wide. There is a light blue sky until 3" down. (Don't paint over the sun.) Then there is bluish-green ocean for six inches with waves out-lined in black. For the last 8", there is green grass with a little light blue mixed in and some tall, black blades here and there. Outline everything in black.

Analysis

Ashley, my partner, did the three sections of the background (first turf, then sea, and sky) correctly. She also made my hat blue with the red dots. My hair was brown, my face was about the right color, the grass was green; she did the colors right. She did the triangles and diamonds on the dress. She did a pretty good job.

I'm not facing the right way in her picture, and my eyes are green instead of blue. There aren't any dots in the middles of the diamonds and triangles on my dress, where they're supposed to go. My dress is supposed to be long sleeved instead of short. There are supposed to be some black streaks in my hair. The sun is not in the right place. and she also forgot the orange spikes on the sun.

I liked doing all of the paintings, but I didn't like all of the describing too much. This was a good project!
