Mystery Painting recreated by Eric and Sean

by Arman and Daniel Here are some directions to paint the painting we chose. First put your paper vertical. The background of our painting is a very light grey. There are also some shapes in our painting. They are all rectangles. There is a red rectangle going across the top left corner. It is about 3/4 across the paper and 1/4 down the paper. On the bottom right corner there is a blue rectangle. It is about 3/4 of the length across the paper, there is 1/4 of the length of the paper left. The last rectangle is a yellow skinny one. It is vertical and fills in the spot right of the top rectangle, then it goes straight down onto the bottom rectangle. Good luck! The picture will be a lot simpler than our description! Note: the correct orientation of the painting is as it appears above. Arman and Daniel rotated the picture before writing their description. |
by Daniel and Arman Here are some things Eric and Sean (our partners at Walter Hays) did very well. They drew all the shapes that were needed in drawing our painting. The shapes also had the right colors. The background was completely right because it was grey. We could have made our description better by saying the yellow rectangle lands on top of the bottom blue rectangle, instead of onto the bottom rectangle. Our painting is untitled. It was made by an artist named Tony Smith. It was painted in 1962 and it is 5 feet 4 inches by 7 feet 10 1/2 inches. The media is oil on canvas. It is located in The Museum of Modern Art in New York. |
