Mystery Painting Description
by José Luis and Andres

We are going to tell you about the painting we chose.

This painting is a rectangle. The rectangle is vertical. The color is brown like mustard.

A little from the top of the rectangle and halfway from the sides you draw another rectangle. This rectangle is light green mixed with yellow. It is 1/3 the size of the whole rectangle and 1/9 of the whole picture. A little distance from the lower side you draw a rectangle 1/4 the size of the whole rectangle. The color is red. It goes across the whole picture. We chose this painting because we like the color; we hope you do too.

Analysis
by Andres and José Luis

It is interesting to draw a picture from a description. Colin and Sarah did a good job. The colors are almost correct. The size is correct too.

It is difficult to write a clear description. The light green rectangle has a narrow border at the top and the two sides. The bottom border of mustard yellow is very wide until it meets the rectangle. It almost goes across the entire picture but there is a very narrow mustard yellow border on the left and a wider one on the bottom. In order to write a better description we needed to use more details and give more specific information.

The name of the painting is Untitled Number 13. The artist’s name is Mark Rothko. It was painted in 1958. The artist used oil and acrylic with powdered pigments. The size is 95 3/8 by 81 3/8 inches. This painting can be seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
