Mystery Painting Description
by Angus and Ishan

You are about to read the directions for making our painting. First, your paper must be vertical.

Then make the paper all chartreuse. After that, paint the top half a green square with rounded corners. Then paint all sides with a thin white except for the right side. Make sure to leave some chartreuse on the top, right side and left side.

Leave the other half of the painting plain chartreuse.

Good luck in painting it!

Analysis
by Ishan and Angus

Our partners at Walter Hays did a very good job on our painting. They made the green square with rounded corners well. They did a good job at painting a white border. Our partners did a good job at not painting a white border on the right side.

Now we will list things that we should have described better. We said to put the paper vertical but they put it horizontal. We guess that they didn’t know what vertical meant. We also think they didn’t know what chartreuse meant either because they put light green instead. Maybe their teacher told them not to use paint because they used markers. We forgot to tell them that the white border needed to be around the green square.

The painting’s real name is Green, White and Yellow on Yellow. The artist’s name is Mark Rothko. He painted this painting in 1951 with oil on canvas. The painting size is 67 1/2 x 44 1/2 inches.
