Mystery Painting Description
by Frank and Michael

These are direction to make our painting. The paper needs to be horizontal. There is a horizontal rectangle about 3/5 of the paper across and 3/5 of the paper up and down.

In the middle of the rectangle is an alien. The head is like a rounded V. The ending lines for the head are going to the corners on top of the rectangle. The nose is a line in the middle of the face that’s vertical. There is a mouth on the bottom of the face. There are eyes that are circles. The circles are 1/6 as wide as the head. They are by the top of the nose going down to half the length of the nose.

The body is almost like the head except bigger but with no point at the end. The chin overlaps the highest point of the body. The point of the head is going into the body. That’s why the body doesn’t have a point. There is a 9 in the middle of the body. The arms are like boomerangs. The left arm is going from left to the bottom and the right arm is going from right to the bottom. They both are about 1/4 of the length of the face away from the 9.

The inside of the rectangle is sort of tannish and the outside of the rectangle is really light grey. The outside is 1/5 of the whole rectangle around the tannish rectangle. This is how to paint our painting. Good luck!

Analysis
by Michael and Frank

Our partners at Walter Hays did well on our painting. The similarities are that the rectangle is the right size, right place, and the right color. The other thing is that they drew an alien on the inside.

There were things that we could have improved in our description. We should have described the alien better. We think our partners didn’t understand when we said there was a 9 in the middle of the body and how the arms are inside the body outline. We should have said how big the alien was by saying the head and body are as wide as the rectangle. We should have said the whole paper outside of the tan rectangle was grey instead of saying the outside of the rectangle is grey. We forgot to say there was a black outline around the tan rectangle. We think they did a great job on our painting.

Our painting is called Letter Ghost and was created by Paul Klee in 1937. It was painted with colored paste on newspaper that was 13 by 19 1/2 inches. This painting is in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
