Mystery Painting Description
by Samuel and Libby

These are our directions for the painting we chose. Please hold the paper vertically. On our painting there is a brownish rectangle that goes about half way up the paper. Above that there is an orangish-brown rectangle that goes all the way to the sides but not quite to the top. There is a reddish brown outline all the way around the brown rectangle, about the thickness of a pencil. Put a reddish-brown line (the same size as the others) across the top of the orangish brown rectangle. We wish you good luck to paint this painting.

Analysis
by Libby and Samuel

Here are some differences we found in our directions and your painting. We think we should have made it more clear that the orange rectangle is very rectangular. We also think that should have said that the red outline is more the thickness of a marker pen.

We think you did a very good on the shape of the brown rectangle. Also the colors of the reddish outline, the brown top, and the orange rectangle were correct. Adam and his partner did a wonderful job.

Our painting is called Blue over Orange. It was painted with oil on canvas by Mark Rothko in 1956. It is 7 feet 2 inches by 6 feet 7 inches. The painting is now in the Guggenheim Museum, New York.
