Mystery Painting Description
by Joy and Megan

We are going to describe a painting to you.

Start out by putting your paper vertically. Then make a blackish-brown outline around the edge of the paper. Next make two blackish-brown lines dividing the paper into thirds.

The top rectangle is painted a light red. The middle rectangle is dark red. The bottom rectangle is a tannish-bronzish color.

Good luck making this painting!

Analysis
by Megan and Joy

Here are some things that Bettina and Joon Hee did well. They did the black lines correctly. The bottom rectangle was the same color. They also put their paper vertically like we told them to.

Here are some things that we could have done better. We told them to make the top rectangle light red, but what we meant to say was that the top rectangle was lighter than middle rectangle. We also should have said to use poster paint instead of water colors because when they did light red it looked like pink. All in all they did a good job.

s Here is some information about the real painting. The artist is Mark Rothko. The painting size is 69 x 50 1/8 inches. It was made by using oil paints on canvas. It is located in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The year it was painted was 1960.
