Liquids
2nd Grade Physical Science Unit |

|
General Information
The Liquids unit is part of the Insights Elementary Science Curriculum developed by Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), with funding from the National Science Foundation.
In this unit students are expected to:
- identify the common properties of liquids
- identify the ways some properties differ among liquids
- develop an understanding of the ways liquids interact with other liquids and solids and recognize some of the variety of factors that influence those interactions
- apply explorations, observations, and comparisons to predict and solve problems effectively and creatively
Core Concepts
- All liquids pour and take the shape of their containers.
- Physical properties (density, cohesion, viscosity, color) of different liquids vary.
- Solid objects in liquids either float or sink.
- Buoyancy is related to the weight, density and shape of the object, and to the density and viscosity of the liquid.
